Post-wedding session in Arizona: when to book it, what's included and the $350 start

An after-wedding photo session happens a few weeks after the wedding and starts at $350
Plan an after-wedding photo session between one and four weeks after the wedding, once you've rested, the gown hasn't gone to the cleaner yet and you can choose the light and the place without hurrying. At IAZ Photo Studio it costs $350, $550 or $750, with the same packages as engagement sessions.
On the wedding day, couple portraits fit into whatever time the timeline leaves between the ceremony and the reception. In an after-wedding session, that hour belongs only to the two of you.
What an after-wedding session is and why so many couples book one
An after-wedding session, sometimes called a post-wedding session, is a portrait session for the couple, in their wedding clothes, on another day. On the wedding day your time belongs to everyone; at this session it belongs to the two of you.
What the couple gains:
- Time with no clock running, and no guests waiting at the reception.
- The light you choose. The wedding timeline rarely lines up with sunset; this session can.
- Places far from the venue. The desert, a mountain or the spot where the two of you met.
- Freedom with the gown. It no longer has to arrive clean at the party.
- Fewer nerves. The wedding is over, and it shows on your faces.
When to schedule the after-wedding session: options and trade-offs
The most practical window is one to four weeks after, but choose based on your honeymoon, the gown and the season.
| When | Advantage | Keep in mind |
|---|---|---|
| A few days after | The gown, suit and flowers are still on hand | If you leave on a honeymoon, there may not be time |
| One to four weeks after | You've rested and the gown is still at home | Don't send the gown to the cleaner yet |
| In another season | A different landscape and weather | Make sure the gown and suit are still ready |
| On your first anniversary | A way to celebrate the year | The gown has to be stored carefully |
If the groom's suit is rented, check the return date before you book.
What an after-wedding session costs in Arizona
The after-wedding session uses the same three packages as engagement sessions; the details are on the Chandler engagement session page (opens in a new tab) and the Mesa engagement session page (opens in a new tab). If you want more, an extra hour is $100, 10 more photos $105, an additional location $100 and rush delivery $100.
| Session | Price | What it includes |
|---|---|---|
| Essential | $350 | 1 hour, 10 edited photos |
| Classic | $550 | 1 hour, 20 edited photos and a 16×20 framed print |
| Signature | $750 | 1.5 hours, 30 edited photos and a 20×30 framed print |
All three include 1 location, individual editing, an online gallery and 20% off prints. $150 non-refundable deposit; the balance 48 hours before. Usual turnaround: 2 weeks.
After-wedding session or portraits on the wedding day: what changes
The main difference is time. On the wedding day, couple portraits compete with family photos, travel between locations and the arrival at the reception; in an after-wedding session they compete with nothing.
| Point | Portraits on the wedding day | After-wedding session |
|---|---|---|
| Time | Whatever the timeline leaves | A full 1 hour or 1.5 hours |
| Light | Whatever the schedule gives you | Chosen: sunset or sunrise |
| Place | Near the church or the venue | The one you choose, inside the session area |
| Gown | Needs care for the party | Free for grass, dirt or wind |
| Mood | Nerves and guests waiting | Relaxed and unhurried |
| Cost | Inside the wedding package | From $350 |
If you book a wedding package, the photo session it includes is a pre-event session: it happens at least 2 weeks before the wedding and can work as your engagement session. The after-wedding session is booked separately. Everything each package includes is in what a wedding photo and video package includes.
Ideas for an after-wedding session in Arizona
The ideas that work take advantage of what the wedding day didn't allow: faraway places, low light and freedom with your clothes. These work well in Arizona:
- The desert at sunset, with saguaros and mountains behind you.
- The place where the two of you met, or where the proposal happened.
- Downtown at night, with lights and murals.
- A second outfit: casual clothes, a charro suit or a short dress for the second half.
- The veil in the wind, a photo there is almost never time for on the wedding day.
- The gown without fear: if you want photos in water, mud or paint, decide calmly, because there's no going back; if you plan to keep or sell the gown, skip it.
Once, a sunset couple session started an hour and a half late and the light only lasted for a couple of photos. Since then we explain why we choose each hour and ask couples to arrive with time to spare, because the light doesn't wait. The full story is on mifotoevento.com (opens in a new tab).

Arizona weather and the date of the after-wedding session
Weather decides the hour more than the month. Outside summer, afternoons are usually more comfortable; in summer, the session works better at sunrise or late in the day.
The National Weather Service defines monsoon season as June 15 to September 30, and its monsoon safety page (opens in a new tab) recommends avoiding outdoor activities from mid-afternoon into the evening and going indoors as soon as you hear thunder (checked November 7, 2026). If the forecast turns bad, weather reschedules are free, and any other change needs 72 hours' notice. The hour with the right light for each month is in what time of day to schedule a photo session in Arizona.
How to prepare the gown, the suit and the details
Prepare the session like a short wedding day.
- The gown hung in its garment bag, without sending it to the cleaner until afterward.
- The veil, shoes and accessories in one bag.
- The rings, for a detail photo.
- The bouquet: if the original has wilted, a simple replica works.
- Hair and makeup: repeating them isn't required, but it shows in close-ups.
- Comfortable shoes and water for walking between spots.
A session with more than one location stays within 5 driving miles of the spot where it starts. There is no travel fee within 25 driving miles of Tempe, Arizona (I-10 and US-60); farther out, we quote the travel before you book. Any parking or entry fees the location charges are paid by the couple.
Questions about after-wedding photo sessions
How long after the wedding should the session be?
The most practical window is one to four weeks after, before the gown goes to the cleaner. You can also hold it in another season or on your first anniversary.
How much does an after-wedding session cost?
$350 for Essential, $550 for Classic and $750 for Signature. A $150 non-refundable deposit holds the date and the balance is due 48 hours before.
What happens if it rains or storms on the day of the session?
We move the date at no cost. During monsoon season, it helps to book at sunrise or keep a backup date in mind.
Can we hold the session in another Arizona city?
Yes. If the spot is far away, travel is quoted and agreed in writing before you book.
